Terms
The agreement between you and the company that operates paperwing. It is written to be read, because an agreement nobody reads is not one. Where we are promising you something it says so plainly, and where we are not, it says that too.
What paperwing is
A way to get every file from every person who shot a job into the hands of whoever is editing it, with a fingerprint taken at the source, checked in the cloud, and checked again on your own drive — and a manifest that says what is missing before you sign off.
It is not a backup service, and you should not treat it as one. Cloud copies exist so files can travel. They are released 7–60 days after a job is signed off, depending on your plan, and that happens automatically. The only copy you should rely on is the one on your own drive.
Your account
You need to be old enough to enter a contract where you live. Keep your sign-in to yourself; what happens under your account is yours. Tell us if you think somebody else is in it.
A studio can have several members. Whoever owns it decides who is in it and what they can do, and every member can see every job in that studio.
Contributors and guests
People you invite to deliver files do not need an account and are never charged. Their link is unguessable, works for one job, and can be withdrawn by you at any time.
You are responsible for who you send a link to. If you invite somebody, you are saying you are entitled to ask them for those files and to hold what they send. If your contributors are subject to a release, a contract or a data agreement, that is between you and them.
Your files stay yours
You keep every right in everything you or your contributors upload. You give us permission to store it, move it, fingerprint it and show it back to the people you have given access to — and nothing beyond that. We do not look at it, we do not licence it, we do not use it to train anything, and we do not use it for our own purposes at all.
Plans and money
Prices are in US dollars and exclude any tax you may owe where you are. Plans renew until you cancel; cancelling stops the next renewal rather than refunding the current one, and you keep the plan until the period you paid for ends.
Storage is the one limit that refuses anything: it is the only line with a real bill behind it. The number of open jobs, seats and contributors describe who a plan is for rather than fencing you in, and going past them says so once and gets out of the way. If we change what a plan costs or includes, you will hear about it before it takes effect.
Invoices are yours, not ours
paperwing helps you write invoices and track them. That is the whole of it.
- No money moves through us. “Paid” is something you mark because you know it happened; it is your word, not our observation of a payment.
- We do not decide tax. The tax label and rate on an invoice are yours. We never check whether something is taxable, at what rate, or in which country, and an invoice that looks official is not advice that it is correct.
- We do not convert currencies. Where a contributor invoices in money you do not price in, we ask you what it actually cost you rather than guessing a rate.
What verification does and does not prove
A file is fingerprinted where it was selected, again once it is in the cloud, and again on your drive. A match proves the bytes did not change in transit. It does not prove a file is the right file, that nothing was deleted in-camera before you started, or that the schedule you were given was complete. The missing-card check reads frame numbers and timeline coverage and tells you where to look — it is a prompt, not proof, and the app says so wherever it reports one.
Where a file carries a Content Credential, we read it from the stored bytes and tell you whether the signature verifies and whether it covers the file as it now stands. We do not yet check the signer against a trust list, so “valid” means the maths holds, not that we have vouched for who signed it.
What you may not do with it
- Upload anything you do not have the right to, or anything unlawful.
- Use it to collect material from people who have not agreed to give it to you.
- Attempt to reach another studio's data, or to work around the limits on your plan.
- Resell access, or use it in a way that knowingly breaks it for other people.
If something here is being used to cause harm, we may suspend it. We will tell you why.
What we promise, and what we do not
We will run this carefully and fix what breaks. We are not promising it will never be unavailable, and while it is early there is no service-level guarantee attached to any plan. Features may change; where a change would lose you something you rely on, we will say so first.
To the extent the law where you are allows it, the service is provided as it is, and what we can owe you for any claim connected to it is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before it arose. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
Ending it
You can stop at any time and take everything with you: Settings → Advanced packs your whole workspace before it deletes anything. We may close an account that is being used to break these terms, and other than that we would give you notice and time to get your files out.
Law
The governing law and the place a dispute would be heard are not settled yet, and this page will name both before it is published.
Changes
If these change in a way that matters, the date at the top changes and we will tell you in the app. See also the privacy policy.
